American Petroleum Institute has published four documents on specifications and recommended practices for oil and natural gas production offshore.
Specification 2B, "Specification for Fabricated Structural Steel Pipe," fourth edition (Order No. 811-00300), covers the requirements for structural steel pipe fabricated from plate steel for use in the construction of welded offshore structures.
Specification 2H, "Specification for Carbon Manganese Steel Plate for Offshore Platform Tubular Joints," sixth edition (Order No. 811-00540), covers intermediate strength steel plates up to 3 in. thick for use in welded tubular construction of offshore platforms in selected critical areas.
Specification 2W, "Specification for Steel Plates for Offshore Structures Produced by Thermo-Mechanical Control Processing," second edition (Order No. 811-00578), covers four grades of intermediate strength steel plates used in welded construction of offshore structures in selected critical areas.
Also released by API is Specification 2Y, "Specification for Steel Plates, Quenched-and-Tempered, for Offshore Structures," second edition (Order No. 811-00590). This publication covers four grades of intermediate strength steel plates used in welded construction of off shore structures in selected critical areas.
