Impact Fluid Solutions

Impact Fluid Solutions, a provider of specialty additives for oil and gas drilling, cementing and completions, announced the expansion of its FLC™ line of Wellbore Shielding® and stabilization solutions. A series of new FLC products build on Impact's FLC 2000® additive for drilling fluids, while offering broader capabilities to meet specific well parameters and requirements.

Designed for depleted and mechanically weak formations, FLC additives act as shielding agents, forming a tough, impermeable barrier at the fluid-rock interface. This "shield" minimizes fluid and pressure invasion, stabilizing and strengthening the wellbore.

Operators, oilfield service providers and fluid companies have employed Impact's FLC 2000 to reduce non-productive time, preserve wellbore integrity and improve ultimate recoveries in basins worldwide. Compatible with water-, oil- and synthetic-based fluid systems, FLC 2000 seals fractures up to 250 μm.

The newest FLC additives are specifically designed for today's drilling - or oil and gas environment, as operators are challenged to reduce well costs and improve production. The expanded FLC product line will help operators succeed in a wide variety of difficult drilling conditions by offering increased capabilities to provide fit-for-purpose solutions.

Baker Hughes

Baker Hughes announced the commercial release of its CENtrilift PASS™ slimline ESP system, which is designed to help operators optimize production and reserve recovery while lowering lifting costs in small-diameter wellbores or wells with restricted space due to casing patches or complex completion designs. It is the industry's only small-diameter ESP system capable of operating at flow rates down to 50 BPD and it includes the most comprehensive suite of slimline gas-management technology.

The CENtrilift PASS slimline ESP system incorporates a Baker Hughes' FLEXPumpER™ extended-range pump, engineered using the most advanced computational fluid dynamic modeling software to provide the industry's widest operating range for a 3.38-in pump. The FLEXPumpER pump operates at flow rates from 2,500 BPD to 50 BPD, mitigating the need to change out pumping systems as production rates decline. The pump's optimized flow path also improves ESP system reliability by preventing solids build-up and abrasive wear in the pump.

The CENtrilift PASS slimline ESP system manages gas entrained in the production stream or gas slugs that break out of the reservoir. The niXit™ gas-management intake combines natural and mechanical separation in a single design to minimize the amount of gas entering the pump, regardless of wellbore orientation. When the ESP is deployed in a horizontal or deviated orientation, gravity cups shift to block the pump inlet ports on the high side of the intake where the gas accumulates, preventing the gas from entering the pump and venting it into the annulus. When the ESP is installed in a vertical orientation, the production stream bypasses the gravity cups and mechanical vortex gas separation technology diverts gas away from the pump and into the annulus. For applications that only require mechanical gas separation, the CENtrilift PASS system includes a vortex gas separator. Unlike rotary gas separators, the vortex design is more efficient and far more effective at separating gas from the fluid before it can enter the pump.

Any gas that does enter the pump is effectively handled by combining a GI™ gas insurance boost pump and a FLEXPumpER pump. Both pump designs are engineered to optimize performance in the presence of gas. When the two pump technologies are deployed together, the system can handle more than 60 percent gas volume fractions (GVF) through the pump.

The CENtrilift PASS slimline ESP system also extends the pressure rating of the pump to 5,800 psi, allowing the ESP to be installed deeper in the well closer to the producing zone for greater reservoir pressure draw down and higher recovery rates. Enhancements to the 3.38-in. series motor design improve the mechanical and electrical strength of the motor by 30 percent, while reducing the angle of the motor-to-cable connection to mitigate potential damage during installation in smaller diameter wellbores.

Recently, the CENtrilift PASS slimline ESP system increased production by 150 percent in a Utah well with a 5-in., 18-lb liner set at 6,900 ft. in 7-in. casing. Based on the well design, a traditional 4.5-in. ESP system was initially set above the liner at 6,800 feet, more than 5,000 ft. above the producing zone, which restricted production rates. The high gas volume fraction (GVF) and 230° F (110° C) bottomhole temperature also presented substantial challenges. A CENtrilift PASS slimline ESP system was reliably installed in the liner 80 percent deeper in the well, closer to the reservoir. The niXit gas management intake technology, combined with FLEXPump pump and GI boost pump designs, easily handled the high gas content in the fluid stream. The bottomhole temperature was within the operating parameters of the system, mitigating reliability issues related to motor overheating.

Siemens AG

The Dresser-Rand business received an order from Egypt-based Belayim Petroleum Company (Petrobel) for three model SGT-400 industrial gas turbines, including associated electrical generators. The total order value is in the double-digit million euros range.

Petrobel, a joint venture formed by Italian oil and gas company, Eni, and Egypt's General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), is developing the Zohr gas field, located about 200 kilometers off Egypt's Mediterranean coastline. The order scope also encompasses a service package that includes spare parts supply and on-site maintenance. The turbine-generator sets are slated for delivery in early 2017.

The SGT-400 turbines, manufactured at the Siemens operation located in Lincoln, England, will be integral to the supply of electric power to the natural gas processing facility currently under construction. Each of these turbines is rated at an ISO-based electrical generating capacity of 12.9 megawatts (MW). The SGT-400 model is considered the most efficient gas turbine in this performance class. This high efficiency lowers fuel consumption and thus operating costs, and enables the operator to sell more gas to its customers. Furthermore, the additional quantity of electricity generated provides greater flexibility should plans call for an increase in the gas processing facility's production capacity.

Voss Fluid

VOSS Fluid, an international supplier of fluids technology, presents its product range for efficient solutions in the construction equipment industry at bauma China. One highlight at the trade fair is the VOSSFormSQR System that particularly meets the maximum requirements. The forming system forms a contour in record time on a commercially available hydraulic tube and thus ensures a high quality connection. Users profit from increased process reliability and leak protection and in this way increase their competitive edge. In addition, the Type 90 Comfort preassembly device for series production assembly of cutting rings and the special VOSS coat corrosion protection take center stage at the leading Asian trade fair for construction equipment. Interested specialist visitors can find VOSS Fluid in Hall N4, Booth N4.261.

The VOSSFormSQR tube coupling system, in combination with the VOSSForm 100 forming machine, sets new benchmarks for the safety, quality and efficiency of hydraulic connections. Through its easy to install design the system impresses with permanent freedom from leaks. During forming a 24° tube contour is formed on the end of a hydraulic tube. This is supplemented by a soft seal and the special SQR-function nuts. The result is that VOSSFormSQR offers an additional protection from leaks. The machine is operated by simply inserting the end of the tube against the stop plate. When using this operating concept installation errors are almost completely prevented.

Protection against corrosion is paramount for the long service life and efficiency of hydraulic connections. VOSS Fluid uses the VOSS coat surface for all tube connections. VOSS Fluid also introduces the high-quality zinc-nickel coating made from in-house galvanizing at the trade fair. The surface ensures a significantly higher resistance against red and white rust. VOSS coat is especially wear resistant against mechanical loads. The latest technology from VOSS Fluid also offers the Type 90 Comfort preassembly device for efficient prevention of errors in the automated installation process of cutting rings. The Type 90 Comfort preassembly device automatically detects tools, independently adjusts operating parameters and identifies operating errors due to incorrectly inserted cutting rings. This reduces the risk of an improper assembly to a minimum.
