Obsidian Energy restarts certain Alberta area production as wildfire threat wanes

Obsidian Energy Ltd., Calgary, is restarting certain production taken offline as a precautionary measure due to ongoing wildfire activity in Alberta.

Obsidian Energy Ltd., Calgary, is restarting certain production taken offline as a precautionary measure due to ongoing wildfire activity in Alberta.

On May 12, the company took Peace River area fields at Seal, Walrus, and Nampa offline, and shut-in Peace River Harmon Valley South field on May 14.

Harmon Valley South field began restart operations May 16, as the wildfire has moved away from the area, the company said in a release.

Some 1,200 boe/d of production in Peace River will remain temporarily curtailed until the remaining wildfire threat has subsided.

Over recent days, Obsidian was able to restore 2,500 boe/d of production in the Pembina area in Central Alberta, leaving 8,500 boe/d offline in the area.

In total, about 9,700 boe/d of production is currently curtailed across Peace River and Pembina due to wildfires.

The company knows of no damage to its key assets or infrastructure.
