RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 29 -- Petróleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) next year will begin a $15 million drilling program in the Urucu southeast basin, 650 km from Manaus in Amazon state.

Production from the onshore Urucu basin has peaked at 59,000 b/d of 49° gravity oil and 10 million cu m/day of natural gas. The oil output represents 4% of Brazilian production, most of which comes from offshore.

Surveys in the Urucu basin began in 1988.
