Terra Nova production shut in following oily water discharge investigation, clean up

HOUSTON, Nov. 24 -- As much as 150,000 b/d of oil production remains shut in from Terra Nova field off Newfoundland, pending investigation of an oily water discharge from the field Sunday. Operator Petro-Canada and the Canada-Newfoundland Offshore Petroleum Board are reviewing the incident (OGJ Aug. 9, 2004, p. 44).

Terra Nova lies 350 km east-southeast of St. John's, Newf. in the Jeanne d'arc basin.

Petro-Canada has deployed floating absorbent booms to clean up the oil and is searching for affected wildlife and tracking the slick, which by Tuesday was 40 km south-southeast of the field covering a rectangular area 6.1 km by 5.5 km.
