Engie E&P Norge has let three front-end engineering and design study contracts for modifications at the Gjoa semisubmersible platform in the Norwegian North Sea. The contracts concern the subsea tieback of Skarfjell oil field to the Gjoa platform. Wintershall Norge AS operates Skarfjell.

The Gjoa semi is 45 km offshore in 360 m of water (OGJ Online, Nov. 8, 2010).

Kongsberg Maritime will undertake studies regarding modifications and upgrades to Gjoa control and safety systems. The studies are expected to be completed in August.

Saipem and Heerema Marine Contractors received FEED contracts for heavy lifting and installation of a module on Gjoa. The two separate studies will evaluate options for safe, efficient lifting and installation. These studies also are expected to be completed in August.

Anne Botne, Engie head of development and nonoperated ventures, said adding Skarfjell production to Gjoa is part of Engie’s strategy to make Gjoa a hub for new fields and to extend Gjoa platform’s life.

Gjoa oil and gas field, discovered in 1989, is on production license 153, operated by Engie E&P Norge with 30% interest. Partners are Petoro 30%, Wintershall Norge 20%, Det Norske Shell 12%, and DEA Norge 8%.
