HOUSTON, Nov. 12 -- Nexen Inc. has temporarily shutdown the Buzzard platform in the North Sea after storms damaged the upper section of one of the three power generation turbine exhaust stacks.

A full inspection of the damage will take place as soon as the weather improves, at which time the company will decide when production operations can safely resume.

The company said it did not expect production to be down for an extended period of time since the platform can operate at full rates with two turbines.

Nexen has a 43.2% operated working interest in Buzzard. Other partners include PetroCanada 29.9%, BG Group 21.7%, and Edinburgh Oil & Gas Ltd. 5.2%.
