CNOOC starts up WZ 6-1 oil field off China

CNOOC Ltd. has begun production from Wei Zhou (WZ) 6-1 oil field in 35 m of water in the Beibu Gulf in the western South China Sea.

HOUSTON, Oct. 30 -- CNOOC Ltd. has begun production from Wei Zhou (WZ) 6-1 oil field in 35 m of water in the Beibu Gulf in the western South China Sea.

The field is 65 km from Beihai in Guangxi Province near WZ 11-4 and WZ 12-1 oil fields. It is producing more than 2,500 b/d from two wells and is expected to achieve peak production of 3,700 b/d.

Development of WZ 6-1 field via an unmanned wellhead platform made use of WZ 12-1 facilities.

CNOOC Ltd. owns 100% interest in the field.
