HRT discovery extends Solimoes basin gas trend

HRT Participacoes em Petroleo SA, Rio de Janeiro, said its 1-HRT-8-AM exploratory well on the SOL-T-169 block in Brazil’s Solimoes basin is a gas discovery that confirms a gas trend east of Jurua field.

In notifying Brazil’s ANP of the discovery, HRT said e National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and that hydrocarbon shows in cuttings, mud logs, and wireline formation tests, the well encountered two gas-bearing reservoir intervals in the Jurua formation at 3,045-3,130 m. Total depth is 3,345 m in the Devonian. HRT plans to case and drillstem test the well.

Previous gas discoveries along the trend have been made in the 1-HRT-5-AM and 1-HRT-2-AM wells 32 km and 22 km, respectively, from 1-HRT-8-AM. HRT called the discovery “another important step in the assessment of the gas potential of the Tefe cluster in the Solimoes basin,” where the company’s partner is TNK-Brasil.
