HOUSTON, Oct. 12, 2001 -- Statoil let contracts to a joint venture of Stolt Offshore SA and Halliburton Co. for repairs to flowline welds at Åsgard field in the Norwegian Sea.
The $900 million contract covers repair work and chartering of rigs and support vessels.
Statoil said the contract covers repairs of 42 welds by May 1. It will provide more information on the job later this month.
The company shut in the Åsgard B platform in August due to leaks (OGJ Online, Aug. 23, 2001).
Earlier this year, Statoil discovered 72 weak welds in hubs at Åsgard field and launched a program to evaluate which should be repaired.
