HOUSTON, July 23 -- Suncor Energy Inc. resumed operations at its Fort McMurray, Alta. oil sands plant 8 days after a maintenance shutdown July 11 reduced production rates by about 50% to 95,000 b/d (OGJ July 22, 2002, p. 8).

The maintenance shutdown occurred to repair one of Suncor's two fractionators, which has been in operation since 1967. Construction of an $80 million replacement fractionator is under way and scheduled to be operational in 2004.
