HOUSTON, Jan. 16 -- Statoil ASA has signed an agreement with the National Iranian Oil Co. for enhanced recovery studies at three Iranian oil fields.

Statoil said Ahwaz, Bibi Hakimeh, and Marun fields produce 1.5 million b/d of oil, equal to about half the production of the Norwegian continental shelf.

All the fields are in a relatively small area, only 50,000 sq km, inside the Dezful embayment of Khuzestan Province (OGJ, May 8, 2000, p. 36). The fields produce from the Early Miocene Asmari lime and the Cenomanian lime.

Statoil and NIOC will conduct field studies and gather data with the participation of Ripi, Iran's national research institution.
