North American rig count unchanged for the week

US drilling activity fell this week, down 2 units to 621 rotary rigs working, said Baker Hughes. The drop offset Canada’s 2-rig gain to 234 rigs running for the week ended Feb. 16.

The US count is down 139 rigs from the same time last year, while Canada’s year-over-year count is down by 14 units.

In the US, land operations were unchanged at 602. There were 2 fewer rigs working offshore for a total of 19 running for the week. Rig counts for inland water operations remained unchanged at 0.

Of the rotary rigs working in the US, there were 497 drilling for oil this week, down 2 from the previous week. Those drilling for natural gas were unchanged at 121. There were 3 rigs unclassified, unchanged from last week.

Among the major producing states, only Oklahoma’s rig count increased. With a single-unit gain, Oklahoma ended the week with 42 rigs running. Texas dropped 2 rigs to end the week with 299. Kansas ended the week with 1 fewer rig, leaving 1 remaining.
