OMV (Norge) AS has been granted consent by the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) for exploration drilling in block 6607/3 and 6607/6 in production license (PL) 1016 the Norwegian Sea.

Well 6607/3-1 S will be drilled by the Transocean Norge to test a prospect named Velocette in 475 m of water.

Velocette is a gas-condensate prospect targeting Cretaceous Nise turbidite sands on the eastern flank of the Utgard High in the Norwegian Sea. The prospect has been identified following recent seismic reprocessing and benefits from seismic amplitude anomalies indicative of gas-filled sands. It is located within tieback distance (about 45 km) from the Equinor-operated producing Aasta Hansteen field.

The well is anticipated to be drilled in third-quarter 2023.

OMV is operator at PL 1016 (40%) with partners INPEX Idemitsu Norge AS (40%) and Longboat Energy Norge AS (20%).
