Land operations were responsible for 2 of the additional rigs, increasing to 562 working. Offshore drilling increased by 1 rig to 15 active units, all in the Gulf of Mexico. Inland waters activity was unchanged at 2 units.
Of the 233-rig increase from last year, oil rigs were up 212, gas rigs up 23, and miscellaneous rigs down 2.
Canada’s rig count dropped by 10 to 167, still up from 102 during the same period last year.
