Baker Hughes: Canada gains 7 units to end the week

Canada has added 7 rigs for the week ended Sept. 25, according to Baker Hughes data. At 71 rigs, the count is 56 fewer than the 127 units drilling this week a year ago.

Canada has added 7 rigs for the week ended Sept. 25, according to Baker Hughes data. At 71 rigs, the count is 56 fewer than the 127 units drilling this week a year ago. With 33 rigs drilling, Canada’s oil-directed rig count was up 3 for the week. The gas-directed rig count in Canada increased by 4 units to reach 38.

The overall US rig count is up this week. With a 6-unit gain, the count reached 261 rigs working for the week ended Sept. 25, Baker Hughes said. The count is down 599 units from the 860 rigs working this time a year ago.

The number of rigs drilling on land was up 6 week-over-week with a total of 246 units. The number of rigs drilling in inland waters was unchanged at 1 unit for the week. The number of rigs drilling offshore was unchanged at 14.

US oil-directed rigs increased by 4 from last week to reach 183 units. This time a year ago, 713 units were drilling for oil. Rigs targeting gas increased by 2 units to reach 75 rigs, 71 fewer than were drilling for gas at this time a year ago.

Among the major oil and gas-producing states, Texas saw the largest increase in rigs with a 7-unit gain to reach 113 rigs working for the week. Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and Ohio each saw a single unit increase to reach 39, 19, and 6 units, respectively.

New Mexico’s rig count fell 2 units to hit 41 this week. Two states, West Virginia and Alaska each dropped one rig to reach 7 and 2 rigs running, respectively.

Six states remained unchanged this week, namely Oklahoma, 12; North Dakota, 9; Colorado, 5; California, 4; Wyoming, 1; and Utah, 0.
