Baker Hughes: US rig count down 13 units to 266
The US drilling rig count fell 13 units, reaching 266 rigs working for the week ended June 19, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is down 701 units from the 967 rigs working this time a year ago.
The number of rigs drilling on land dropped 11 units week-over-week to a total of 255 units. The number of rigs drilling in inland waters was unchanged at 0 units for the week. The number of rigs drilling offshore dropped by 2 units to 11.
US oil-directed rigs decreased by 10 from last week to reach 189 units. This time a year ago, 789 units were drilling for oil. Rigs targeting gas decreased by 3 units to reach 75 rigs, 102 fewer than were drilling for gas at this time a year ago.
Among the major oil and gas-producing states, New Mexico dropped the largest number of rigs. At 51 rigs running, the count is 5 fewer than the previous week. The rig count in Texas fell by 3 to reach 111. At 32 rigs working, Louisiana’s rig count is 2 fewer than last week.
Three states saw a decrease of one rig for the week, namely North Dakota, 10; Oklahoma, 9; and West Virginia, 5.
Seven states remained unchanged this week, namely Pennsylvania 22; Ohio, 9; Colorado 6; California, 4; Alaska, 3; Wyoming, 1; and Utah, 0.
Canada’s rig count decreased by 4 units for the week. At 17 rigs, the count is 102 fewer than the 119 units drilling this week a year ago. With 5 rigs drilling, Canada’s oil-directed rigs decreased by 2 units this week. Gas-directed rigs in Canada decreased by 2 units to reach 12.
