In late 2018, Total Oil Trading SA, the oil and gas trading arm of Total SA, Paris, published an assay dated Oct. 8, 2018, for Lapa crude oil, produced from Lapa field in Block BM-S-9A in the Santos basin presalt, 270 km offshore Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 2,140 m of water.

Lapa field began production in December 2016 via the 100,000-b/d Cidade de Caraguatatuba floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel. Alongside its crude production, the 337.4-m long, 28.8-m high FPSO can store 1.6 million bbl of oil and compress 5 million cu m/day of gas.
In January 2018, Petróleo Brasileiro SA transferred most of its ownership interest in, as well as operatorship of, Lapa field to Total. Alongside Total (35%), Lapa field partners include Royal Dutch Shell PLC unit BG E&P Brasil Ltda. (30%), Repsol Sinopec Brasil SA (25%), and Petrobras (10%).
