Baker Hughes: US rig count up 19 units to 1,025

The US drilling rig count climbed 19 units to reach 1,025 rigs working for the week ended Apr. 5, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is up 22 units from the 1,003 rigs working this time a year ago.

The US drilling rig count climbed 19 units to reach 1,025 rigs working for the week ended Apr. 5, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is up 22 units from the 1,003 rigs working this time a year ago.

A 19-unit gain week-over-week puts the number of rigs drilling on land at 1,000. One additional rig is drilling in inland waters, bringing the total to 3 for the week. The number of rigs drilling offshore is down a single unit to 22.

US oil-directed rigs increased by 15 from last week to 831. A year ago, 808 units were drilling for oil. Gas-directed rigs are up 4 units at 194, the same number as was drilling for gas a year ago.

Among the major oil and gas-producing states, Texas saw the largest increase in rigs week-over-week. With an increase of 8 units, the number of rigs working in Texas for the week hit 499. A 4-unit increase put West Virginia’s rig count at 22 for the week.

New Mexico gained 3 rigs to hit 107 rigs running for the week, while Colorado, 32, and Alaska, 8, each saw a 2-unit gain. North Dakota’s rig count increased by a single-unit week-over-week to reach 61.

Seven states remained unchanged this week, namely Louisiana, 65; Wyoming, 36; Ohio, 14; California, 13; Utah, 7; Arkansas, 0; and Kansas, 0.

Oklahoma, 107, and Pennsylvania, 47, each saw a single-unit drop in rigs.

Canada’s rig count is down 20 units for the week. At 68 rigs, the count is 43 fewer than the 111 units drilling this week a year ago. A 13-rig drop brought the oil-directed rig count to 22 for the week. Gas-directed rigs in Canada fell by 7 units to reach 46.
