Siccar Point Energy has spudded an exploratory well on its Blackrock prospect 140 km northwest of the Shetland Islands between undeveloped Cambo and Rosebank oil fields. Main reservoir targets are Tertiary Colsay and Upper Jurassic sands on the Corona Ridge intrabasinal high shared by Cambo and Rosebank. Siccar Point describes the structural feature as surrounded by deep basins with source rocks still generating oil.

Siccar Point Energy has spudded an exploratory well on its Blackrock prospect 140 km northwest of the Shetland Islands between undeveloped Cambo and Rosebank oil fields (OGJ Online, Aug. 23, 2018).

Main reservoir targets are Tertiary Colsay and Upper Jurassic sands on the Corona Ridge intrabasinal high shared by Cambo and Rosebank. Siccar Point describes the structural feature as surrounded by deep basins with source rocks still generating oil.

Diamond Offshore’s Ocean Great White semisubmersible is drilling the well, which is on UK North Sea license P1830.

Interest holders are Siccar Point, 52.5%, operator; Suncor Energy UK Ltd., 25%; and Shell UK Ltd., 22.5%.

Siccar Point operates Cambo field with a 70% interest and Shell as a 30% partner. At Rosebank, Equinor is operator with a 40% interest, with partners Shell, 40%, and Siccar Point, 20%.

After drilling the Blackrock prospect, Siccar Point plans an exploratory well at its Lyon prospect on the P1854 license 25 km east of undeveloped Tobermory and Bunnehaven gas fields, which are 150 km northwest of the Shetlands.

It expects drilling of both wells to take about 5 months.
