MARKET WATCH: Oil, natural gas close up in waffling markets

The October contract for benchmark US light, sweet crudes on the New York Mercantile Exchange increased $1.18 to $105.03/bbl Aug. 22. The November contract rose 96¢ to $104.33/bbl.

The October contract for benchmark US light, sweet crudes on the New York Mercantile Exchange increased $1.18 to $105.03/bbl Aug. 22. The November contract rose 96¢ to $104.33/bbl.

Heating oil for September delivery was down about a penny for a rounded settle price of $3.07/gal on NYMEX. Reformulated stock for oxygenate blending for the same month rose 2.7¢ to settle at $2.96/gal.

The September natural gas contract was up 8.5¢ to close at a rounded $3.55/MMbtu on NYMEX. On the US spot market, gas at Henry Hub, La., also gained 6¢ to close at a rounded $3.52/MMbtu.

In London, the October IPE contract for North Sea Brent rose 9¢ to $109.90/bbl. The September contract for gas oil settled at $936.25/tonne, down $2.50 from the previous session.

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries reported its basket of 12 benchmark crudes closed at $107.58/bbl on Aug. 22, up 63¢.
