LONDON, Apr. 8 -- The Woodside Petroleum-led North West Shelf gas project joint venture has awarded a contract to Eos to carry out detailed engineering and procurement management services for the JV's North Rankin B platform development off Western Australia following Eos' completion of the front-end engineering and design (FEED) work.

Eos, a JV of KBR and WorleyParsons, will complete the fixed structures offshore in water 410 ft deep. The platform will produce the remaining low-pressure gas from North Rankin and Perseus gas fields 85 miles off north-western Western Australia. Platform operations are scheduled to start in 2012.

The combined revenue of the FEED and contract options for the Eos JV is $320 million.

Woodside and its NWS partners made the final investment decision for the $5 billion (Aus.) development at the end of March to fulfill their onshore gas commitments to supply customers beyond 2013 (OGJ Online, Mar. 31, 2008).

The new steel platform at North Rankin, with a topsides weight of 23,600 tonnes, will house gas compression facilities, utilities, and a living quarters module.

The platform will be connected to the North Rankin A platform by a 100-m bridge and walkway.

The development work also will include systems tie-ins between the two platforms plus a complete refurbishment for North Rankin A, which has been in place since the mid-1980s.

Both platforms will work as a single integrated facility following completion of the project.
