HOUSTON, Oct. 4 -- Petro-Canada has begun oil production from De Ruyter oil and gas field on Blocks P10a and P11b on the Dutch continental shelf in the southern portion of the North Sea.

During the fourth quarter, Petro-Canada plans to ramp up the field's production, and in 2007 and 2008 that production is expected to average 18,500 b/d, of which more than 90% will be oil and the remainder will be gas. This would add about 10,000 boe/d (net) to Petro-Canada.

The De Ruyter development consists of a gravity base structure with wellhead and lattice towers supporting an integrated production deck (OGJ Online, Dec. 28, 2004).

Petro-Canada, operator, has a 54.07% interest in the field, and Energie Beheer Nederland has 45.93%.

In addition, Petro-Canada expects to start production at yearend from Block L5b-C in the Netherlands and from Buzzard field in the UK North Sea.
