Euronav NV acquires 4 VLCCs

Independent tanker company Euronav NV, Antwerp, has entered into an agreement with Metrostar Management Group of Greece to purchase four very large crude carriers (VLCCs) for a total of $477.5 million.

HOUSTON, Mar. 7 -- Independent tanker company Euronav NV, Antwerp, has entered into an agreement with Metrostar Management Group of Greece to purchase four very large crude carriers (VLCCs) for a total of $477.5 million.

The vessels are the 290,927 dwt Crude Guardian (1993) and the 298,304 dwt Crude Creation (1998), both to be delivered to Euronav in March; the 319,470 dwt Crude Topaz (2002), slated for delivery in April; and a 318,000 dwt newbuild to be delivered in May.

The vessels, which will transport crude oil and petroleum products, will be employed in the Tankers International pool that currently operates 45 VLCCs and ultra large crude carriers.
