TC Energy Corp. earlier this week stood down the emergency response to a rupture on its 36-in. OD NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd. (NGTL) Grande Prairie Mainline, near Edson, Alta., and transitioned to repair and restoration. The company said investigation of the incident is ongoing in conjunction with the Canada Energy Regulator.

TC Energy reported completing a comprehensive integrity assessment of nearby assets and the resumption of normal operations. It noted that the NGTL system had been reconfigured to accommodate interim operational measures and limit the impact to customers.

The initial rupture sparked a small wildfire which was quickly contained (OGJ Online, Apr. 17, 2024).

NGTL can transport upwards of 13 bcfd of natural gas produced in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin to markets in Canada and the US.
