PetroChina Co. Ltd., a unit of China National Petroleum Corp., has selected IHS Energy Group to organize and attract bidding on 17 blocks on offer in the Bohai Wan basin.

IHS said it is seeking qualified international oil and gas companies as contractors for the exploration, field development, and rehabilitation in the blocks in Liaohe subbasin.

The group will hold presentations in Houston, Calgary, and London next month.

IHS and PetroChina will review other exploration and development areas in the Liaohe region and other western basins, which it may open to bidding in the second half of 2001, as well as integrated gas projects for which PetroChina will require partners.

Of the 17 blocks, three are offered for exploration, three for field development, and nine for enhanced oil recovery. The exploration blocks are Kuihuadao, Niuqing Deep, and Shuguang Deep. The development blocks are Hainan, Shu 1, Caotai, and Jing 52. Enhanced oil recovery blocks are Gaosheng, An 97, Jing 35, Huan 127, Qinglongtai, Du 48, Du 124, Jingbei Buried Hill, Jin 25, and Qian 12.

Together the blocks cover 920 sq km and contain estimated oil in place of 250 million tons.
