Johnson named Connacher chief executive officer

Merle Johnson has been appointed chief executive officer and director of Calgary-based in situ oil sands developer Connacher Oil & Gas Ltd. Johnson most recently served as Connacher’s chief operating officer. He succeeds Brent de Jong who most recently served as interim chief executive officer and chairman.

Merle Johnson has been appointed chief executive officer and director of Calgary-based in situ oil sands developer Connacher Oil & Gas Ltd. Johnson most recently served as Connacher’s chief operating officer (OGJ Online, Nov. 28, 2012). He succeeds Brent de Jong who most recently served as interim chief executive officer and chairman.

Johnson has 19 years of combined experience in conventional oil and gas, thermal oil, and mining. He has been involved in the growth of Connacher from an oil sands start-up company to a 14,500-b/d steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) producer.

Johnson joined Connacher in June 2007 during the construction of Connacher’s first SAGD bitumen project at Pod One. He was promoted to vice-president in 2009.
