Chris Finlayson has been named InterOil Corp. chairman-designate. He succeeds Gaylen Byker, who announced at the company’s annual meeting in June that he would retire after 17 years on the board.
Finlayson, a director of Lloyd’s Register, resigned as BG Group’s chief executive in April (OGJ Online, Apr. 28, 2014). He also served as executive vice-president and managing director with Royal Dutch Shell PLC (OGJ Online, July 29, 2004).
Finlayson has more than 15 years of senior-level experience in the LNG industry, covering upstream development to LNG shipping and marketing. He has worked with customers, joint venturers, national oil companies, and governments in major LNG-importing countries such as China, Japan, and South Korea.
InterOil’s Elk-Antelope gas discovery is currently being developed as an LNG project alongside Papua New Guinea’s Oil Search Ltd. and Total SA (OGJ Online, Mar. 26, 2014). The company also recently began an exploration and appraisal campaign across 16,000 sq km of its licenses surrounding Elk-Antelope.
InterOil says Finlayson will join the board immediately and succeed Byker after an appropriate handover.
