Shell appoints first Nigerian to head SPDC as Finlayson becomes EP Africa CEO

Shell Petroleum Development Co. of Nigeria Ltd. announced the appointment of Basil Omiyi as its managing director effective September 2004.

HOUSTON, July 29 -- Shell Petroleum Development Co. of Nigeria Ltd. announced the appointment of Basil Omiyi as its managing director effective September 2004. Omiyi will be the first Nigerian to hold the post. Omiyi is currently production director of SPDC.

Chris Finlayson, the current managing director of SPDC, has been appointed CEO of Shell Exploration and Production in Africa effective October 2004. Finlayson, will continue to be based in Lagos, Nigeria, and will retain the role of country chair for Nigeria.

Finlayson succeeds Shell EP Africa's current CEO, Brian Ward, who will be retiring from Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies.

Finlayson was previously managing director, Brunei Shell Petroleum Co.
