Pieridae Energy (Canada) Ltd. has announced plans to develop an LNG export plant in Goldboro, NS.
Goldboro LNG, Halifax, will own natural gas liquefaction and storage, including a marine jetty for loading. The plant, said the company’s first press release, will produce about 5 million tonnes/year of LNG and be able to store 420,000 cu m of LNG.
It will be near the 870-mile Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline originally built to move natural gas from production in Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada to the US Northeast (OGJ Online, Feb. 7, 2008).
Media in the province have reported that supply for the plant will come from US shale gas plays in the Marcellus through a reversed M&NE pipeline and from Canadian offshore developments Sable Island and Deep Panuke.
The announcement said Pieridae is in “advanced negotiations with international energy utilities” for LNG produced at the proposed Goldboro LNG plant and expects to conclude negotiations in 2013. Pending regulatory approvals, construction could begin in 2014 and the plant be operating in late 2018.
Pieridae Energy (Canada) Pres. Alfred Sorensen is promoting the project. In the recent past, he promoted an LNG export plan at Kitimat, BC, through Galveston LNG Inc. That project was later bought by Apache Corp. and EOG Resources (OGJ Online, Jan. 15, 2010).
The company also said it is negotiating with Contact Exploration Inc., Calgary, regarding Contact's New Brunswick natural gas properties. Under the proposed agreement, according to Pieridae, Contact would manage operations and investment made by Pieridae in Goldboro LNG “with respect to the exploration and development of all potential Canadian onshore natural gas.”
