PLANS FOR U.S.-CANADIAN GAS PIPELINE TAKING SHAPE

Coastal Corp.'s ANR Pipeline Co., Detroit, and Interprovincial Pipe Line Inc. (IPL), Calgary, have signed a letter of intent to establish a major U.S.-Canadian gas pipeline system. Subject to regulatory approvals in the U.S. and Canada, the proposed system will be known as lntercoastal Pipeline. Target markets are in eastern Canada-Ontario and Quebec and the U.S. Northeast to be supplied with Canadian and U.S. gas. InterCoastal will have a peak capacity of about 400 MMcfd.
