HOUSTON, Nov. 6
– EOG Resources Inc. has expanded its acreage position in the Haynesville shale play to 153,000 net acres after adjusting for the expected exercise of third party preferential rights.

As one of the first operators to test an extension of the play southwest into Nacogdoches and Shelby counties, EOG Resources reported initial production rates from three wells that equal the better completions in the Louisiana core area.

Hill-1, Pop Pop Gas Unit-1, and Hassell Gas Unit-1, drilled early in the 2009 third quarter in Nacogdoches County, had initial production of more than 15 MMcfd/well. EOG Resources has 42% working interest.

The latest land expansion came with acquisition of 37,000 net acres in Nacogdoches County.
