LONDON, Oct. 26 -- Aminex PLC, Dublin, will collect seismic data and drill exploration wells on land and offshore acreage in Kenya under a new production-sharing contract awarded by the Kenyan energy ministry.

Aminex has already collected data for the acreage–designated L17 and L18–under a technical evaluation agreement that was converted into the 7-year PSC. A seabed core sampling operation also has been conducted, which has revealed "encouraging shows" of hydrocarbons, Aminex said.

It will operate the 5,000 sq km blocks that are centered on the port city of Mombasa and stretches between the Tanzanian border and the Kenyan coastal town of Kilifi. Aminex will have a 25% share and will work with SomKen Ltd. 35% and East African Exploration Ltd. 40%.

Aminex's said the exploration targets in L17 and L18 are an extension of the work the company is already doing in Tanzania and Madagascar.
