Baker Hughes: US drilling rig count jumps to 1,831
The US drilling rig count jumped 13 units to reach 1,831 rigs working during the week ended Apr. 11, Baker Hughes Inc. reported.
Land rigs increased 5 units to to 1,759 as offshore rigs were up 2 units to 53. Rigs drilling in inland waters gained 2 units to 19.
Oil rigs leaped 19 units to 1,517, overshadowing the 6-unit decline in gas rigs to 310. Rigs considered unclassified were unchanged from a week ago at 4.
Directional drilling rigs spiked 15 units to 216 while horizontal drilling rigs remained unchanged at 1,224.
Canada’s rig count, meanwhile, took another dive, dropping 23 units to an overall total of 212. A majority of those were oil rigs, which fell 17 units to 93. Gas rigs relinquished 6 units to 119. Canada still has 56 more rigs compared with its total from this week a year ago.
Major states, basins
Louisiana’s 9-unit rise to 108 overall represented the largest increase of the major oil- and gas-producing states. Texas reached 884 units with a 7-rig jump. California was up 3 units to 41. New Mexico claimed 1 unit to 91.
Unchanged from a week ago were Colorado at 62, Pennsylvania at 54, Wyoming at 49, Kansas at 27, Utah at 27, and West Virginia at 26.
Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Alaska each edged down a unit to respective totals of 192, 11, and 10. Ohio was the only other state to report a loss, axing 4 units to 34.
In the major US basins, the Permian ended another week with the largest tally, which shot up 12 units to 536. The Mississippian and Haynesville, meanwhile, each fell 3 units to 71 and 42, respectively. The Eagle Ford lost 4 units to 220.
