AS Norske Shell, operator of PL 832 in the Norwegian Sea, will plug and abandon wildcat well 6304/3-1. The well, drilled 35 km northwest of Ormen Lange field and 165 km northwest of Molde, is dry, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate reported.

Drilled to 3,604 m total depth below the sea surface and terminated in the Nise formation in the Upper Cretaceous, the well encountered a total of about 9-m reservoir rocks in the Egga and Springar formation with poor reservoir quality. Water depth is 1,228 m.

The objective was to prove petroleum in Lower Paleocene to Upper Cretaceous reservoir rocks in the Egga and Springar formation. Data acquisition has been carried out, but the well has not been formation-tested.

This is the first exploration well in PL 832, which was awarded in 2015.

The Scarabeo 8 drilling facility will now drill wildcat well 6406/6-5 in production license 225 B in the Norwegian Sea where Total E&P Norge is the operator.
