  1. BP lets contract for six platform rigs in Caspian Sea

By OGJ editors HOUSTON, Jan. 18 -- BP PLC let a 5-year contract to Aberdeen-based KCA Deutag AG—with an option for an additional 5 years—to manage all BP-operated platform drilling assets in the Azerbaijan section of the Caspian Sea. The contract covers platform drilling operations and maintenance on the Central, East and West Azeri, Chirag, Deepwater Gunashli, and Shah Deniz platforms. BP operates Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli and Shah Deniz fields. On the Chirag platform, KCA Deutag owns the rig, which BP leases. KCA Deutag for years has designed platform rigs for BP in the Caspian region and is designing the next platform rig for Chirag Oil Project, which is scheduled to be installed in 2013. Its operation falls under the new contract. COP involves development of the Azeri, Chirag, and deepwater portion of the Gunashli fields.
