New resistivity drilling tool

The new Centerfire resistivity system complements this firm's fleet of measurement while drilling systems.

The system, developed and tested leveraging Six Sigma methodology, has successfully completed full-system testing of more than 500 drilling hr and more than 1,200 circulating hr. The MWD probe, used in conjunction with the Centerfire resistivity tool, is mounted above the resistivity collar for easy retrieval and data transmission to the surface. Three different tool sizes will be available with outside diameters of 4.75, 6.75, and 8.25 in., allowing the tool to be used in a range of hole sizes.

The resistivity tool combines multiple transmitter spacings and separate frequencies to allow the tool automatically to compensate for the effects of downhole temperature and pressure, creating more accurate and stable readings and reducing time spent with temperature characterization.

The system operates at temperatures as high as 175° Celsius in water and oil-based drilling fluids and in flow rates as much as 1,200 gpm. The tool utilizes its own battery power and can be run independently of the MWD probe to produce recorded measurements from a wiper trip.

The MWD system is designed for easy and efficient transportation to the job site. The system's modular design provides MWD services in a single, flexible system with a variety of collar diameters, from 3.5 in. to 9.5 in., to accommodate flow ranges of 75-1,200 gpm. Additionally, the MWD solution is fully retrievable, minimizing rig downtime and financial risk, the company notes.

New coiled tubing total compensation system

The new CT TComp coiled tubing total compensation system for offshore operations protects wellhead integrity during coiled tubing operations by limiting wellhead stresses.

And it compensates for vertical and horizontal wellhead motion inside or outside the derrick. The firm says its system is faster to rig up than conventional systems and it enables operations on spar platforms and tension leg platforms that might not be possible with conventional systems.

The system can be used as a motion-compensated jacking frame, a 350-ton tension-lift frame, or an internally compensated tension-lift frame. It comes assembled into only three skids: one each for the hydraulic power unit, BOP, and injector. The system requires fewer than half the minimum number of lifts required to load conventional equipment onto the platform, the company points out.

The BOP's, flow cross, sidewinder, side-door stripper injector, and gooseneck are delivered to the platform preassembled within frames.

Virtually every feature of the CT TComp system is designed to save time and reduce costs in deepwater coiled tubing operations, including an adaptive passive system for wellhead stress management, a titanium flex joint for horizontal wellhead movement, and an injector trolley system and winches to permit simultaneous operations.

Methanol injection packages prevent hydrate formation in pipelines, wellhead

These methanol injection packages can be supplied in a variety of configurations that provide as much as 17,500 psi with flow rates as high as 100 gpm for inhibiting hydrate formation in the pipelines and wellhead of offshore platforms.

Featuring hermetically tight, sealless diaphragm pumps to isolate the process fluid from the hydraulic system, these packages can be built to fit the platform footprint and other customer requirements.

A series of methanol injection packages for offshore platforms is designed to prevent hydrate formation within the pipelines and wellhead.

Available configurations include manual or automated stroke length control, speed control, and fixed volume delivery, with continuous injection for gas lines and intermittent injection for oil.

These leaktight pumps have two PTFE diaphragms that are sandwiched and operate in balance to provide double containment with zero leakage, run-dry tolerance, and overload protection.
