Apr 16, 1990 Equatorial Guinea is offering offshore acreage for license, including a 300 sq km tract holding Alba gas/condensate field, The field, with estimated reserves of 1.3 tcf of gas and 68 million bbl of condensate, is a 1984 discovery by Repsol SA of Spain, which recently relinquished the area after failing to find a gas market. Apr 23, 1990 The U.S. Department of Energy plans to create an office to promote exports of American oil field equipment and services. Deputy Energy Sec. W. Henson Moore has pushed the initiative, saying that small U.S. service and supply companies often are at a competitive disadvantage when they seek contracts overseas (OGJ, Nov. 20, 1989, p. 30). He planned to announce the move at a Tampa, Fla., meeting of the Petroleum Equipment Suppliers Association last week.

BP TO DRILL WILDCAT AT SITE OFF PHILIPPINES

Apr 23, 1990 BP Petroleum Development Ltd. plans a wildcat on a block off Palawan in the Philippines on a farmout from Crestone Energy Corp., Denver. Under the farmout agreement, BP received from Crestone 55% interest and operatorship of Geophysical Survey and Exploration Contract 54, a 5,822 sq mile block off western Palawan Island in the South China Sea. PLACID HALTS ULTRADEEPWATER PROJECT IN GULF

Apr 23, 1990 Rick Hagar Gulf Coast News Editor Placid Oil Co. and partners have shut down their pioneering Green Canyon Block 29 floating/subsea drilling and production system in the Gulf of Mexico. Operations to plug and abandon the ultradeepwater site have begun in the wake of the Apr. 16 shutdown. The project's export pipeline bundle, Ship Shoal Block 207 processing platform, and Green Canyon 29 subsea drilling/production template will be mothballed in place.

Apr 23, 1990 BAKER HUGHES INC., Houston, acquired Eastman Christensen Co. from Norton Co. for $550 million cash plus a 5 year warrant to purchase as many as 8 million shares of Baker Hughes stock at $36.75/share. To comply with a U.S. Justice Department agreement, Baker Hughes will divest Hughes Tool Co.'s diamond bit business. Eastman becomes a division of Baker Hughes Drilling Equipment Co.
