BP to proceed with gas field development off Viet Nam

Mar 1, 2001 Operator BP said it will proceed with the $1.3 billion Nam Con Son gas development project off Viet Nam. Development partner ONGC Videsh Ltd. received approval to make its share of the investment last year (OGJ Online, July 6, 2000). The fields were discovered in 1992-1993.

J. Ray McDermott will install pipelines for Shell's Crosby field

Mar 27, 2001 J. Ray McDermott Inc., a subsidiary of McDermott International Inc. will install pipelines for Shell Exploration & Production Co.'s Crosby field, a subsea project in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Developers of Corrib field off Ireland drop gas marketing request

Apr 20, 2001 Owners of Corrib gas field off western Ireland have withdrawn an application to jointly market their production, due to the European Commission's concerns about competition. The companies said joint sales for 5 years would counterbalance the power of the Irish government's gas and electricity companies.

Burullus awards pipelaying contracts for offshore Egypt fields

May 30, 2001 The Burullus Gas Co. joint venture has awarded Stolt Offshore SA a $145 million contract for subsea construction and pipelay work on the Scarab and Saffron gas fields offshore Egypt.

Baker Hughes introduces biggest fracturing vessel in gulf

Jun 7, 2001 The Baker Oil Tools division of Baker Hughes Inc., Houston, Thursday introduced the largest proppant-capacity fracturing vessel for deepwater work in the Gulf of Mexico. The converted vessel was rechristened the MV HR Hughes for Howard R. Hughes who, in 1909, founded Hughes Tool Co., forerunner of Baker Hughes.

Enterprise awards Corrib field work off Ireland

Jun 12, 2001 Enterprise Energy Ireland Ltd. Tuesday awarded three principal contracts valued at a total of 360 million euros for the onshore and offshore development of the Corrib gas field on Blocks 18/20 and 18/25 in the Slyne basin off Ireland. A susbsea development is planned.

Shell to tie back Einset development to Gulf of Mexico platform

Jun 19, 2001 Shell Exploration & Production Co., New Orleans, said Tuesday a subsea production system called Einset is being developed in the Gulf of Mexico in 3,500 ft of water. Einset will tie back to Shell's SE Tahoe subsea manifold in Viosca Knoll 784, which carries production 12 miles to Shell's Bud Lite platform.

Dominion to develop Devils Tower field in Gulf of Mexico

Jun 20, 2001 Pioneer Natural Resources Co., Dallas, and partner, Dominion Exploration & Production Inc. have approved development of the Devils Tower field in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Oil production is due to begin in 2003 and increase to 8,000 to 10,000 b/d net to Pioneer. Reserves are 50 to 75 million boe.

Chevron begins production from North Nemba platform off Angola

Aug 17, 2001 Chevron Corp. and partners Friday said oil production has begun from the North Nemba platform on Block 0 off Angola. North Nemba is expected to peak at 50,000 b/d of oil in the second quarter of 2002 and will average 40,000 b/d for the year.

ExxonMobil sets oil well tie-back, depth record in Gulf of Mexico

Aug 17, 2001 ExxonMobil Corp. has started production at its $330-million subsea Mica development on Mississippi Canyon Blocks 167 and 211 in the Gulf of Mexico. Mica is in 4,350 ft of water and tied back 29 miles to BP PLC's Pompano platform in 1,290 ft of water.

Shell to develop Manatee by tieback to Bullwinkle

Sep 19, 2001 Shell Exploration & Production Co. plans to develop its Manatee project in the Gulf of Mexico via tieback to the Bullwinkle platform on Green Canyon Block 65. Manatee will be a two-well, $80 million development on Green Canyon 155, 160 miles southwest of New Orleans.

Oct. 1 startup due for Malampaya gas field project off Philippines

Sep 20, 2001 Shell and the Philippines government have signed the final environmental agreements allowing the $2 billion Malampaya deepwater gas field to begin production ahead of schedule on Oct. 1. It will be the nation's first gas field, and with three associated power projects, $4.5 billion will be invested.

Repsol begins gas production at Quiriquire field in Venezuela

Sep 26, 2001 Repsol YPF has begun gas-condensate production at Quiriquire field in Monagas State, western Venezuela.

Malampaya delivers first gas

Oct 5, 2001 The Malampaya project off the Philippines delivered first gas to the Batangas gas handling plant, more than a week before the official inauguration of the gas-to-power scheme by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Petrobras awards Albacora Leste field subsea contract to FMC

Oct 10, 2001 Petroleo Brasileiro SA has awarded FMC Energy Systems, a unit of FMC Technologies Inc., an $18 million contract to supply subsea facilities for the Albacora Leste field in Campos basin off Brazil.
