Contract let for coal gasification plant (Nov 9, 2009)

Tenaska Energy Inc., Omaha, has let a contract to Siemens Energy for coal gasification technology at the planned Taylorville Energy Center (TEC), one of the first commercial-scale facilities of its kind in the US to use carbon capture and sequestration.

API issues second of four planned hydraulic fracturing guidelines (Nov 2, 2009)

The American Petroleum Institute published a new guidance document outlining industry best-practices for properly drilling and cementing wells that are being hydraulically fractured.

Encore plans 22-stage frac in Williston lateral (Oct 29, 2009)

Encore Acquisition Co., Fort Worth, plans to apply a 22-stage frac in a Three Forks-Sanish (TFS) horizontal well in the Williston basin in order to compare single-stage and multistage frac effectiveness.

24-stage frac job planned for Sanish Three Forks well (Oct 28, 2009)

Whiting Petroleum Corp. plans to use 24-stages for hydraulically fracture its Ogden 11 TFH horizontal well, completed in the Three Forks reservoir in the Sanish field, Mountrail County, ND.

Cabot ordered to cease Marcellus fracs (Sep 28, 2009)

State regulators ordered Cabot Oil & Gas Corp., Houston, to cease hydraulic fracturing in northeastern Pennsylvania in connection with surface spills.

StatoilHydro studies carbon dioxide reduction at Leismer (Sep 18, 2009)

StatoilHydro is exploring ways to reduce water use and carbon dioxide emissions at its Leismer Oilsands demonstration project, 160 km south of Fort McMurray, Alta.

Propane fracs run at New Brunswick gas wells (Sep 10, 2009)

Corridor Resources Inc., Halifax, NS, reported successful initial gas rates following the first liquid propane fracs in McCully field in New Brunswick and is identifying nearby locations for potential drilling in 2010.

Shell orders pumps for St. Joseph field off Sabah (Jul 29, 2009)

Shell Malaysia Exploration & Production BV placed an $8 million order for Flowserve Corp. barrel-type injection pumps for its waterflood development in St. Joseph field, off Sabah.

Tuned water may improve Saudi waterflooding (Jul 29, 2009)

Minimal chemical alteration to injection water may help increase oil recovery, researchers at Saudi Aramco's EXPEC Advanced Research Center say.

Encore secures carbon dioxide supply for Bell Creek flood (Jul 29, 2009)

Encore Acquisition Co. said it will purchase carbon dioxide for its Bell Creek tertiary oil recovery project in southeastern Montana from the Lost Cabin gas plant in Fremont County, Wyo.

Chevron begins injecting steam in PNZ pilot (Jun 29, 2009)

Saudi Arabian Chevron initiated steam injection in its large-scale pilot steamflood project at Wafra field, an Eocene heavy-oil carbonate reservoir in the Partitioned Neutral Zone (PNZ) between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

Connacher reactivates Algar oil sands project (Jun 17, 2009)

After selling $200 million of first-lien senior secured notes, Connacher Oil & Gas Ltd., Calgary, announced it would reactivate its plan to construct the Algar project, a project similar in size to its first steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) project, Great Divide Pod-1, in northeastern Alberta.

Lacq field CCS project is France's first (Jun 5, 2009)

Following 2 years of study and preparation, Total SA has received administrative authorization to start injecting carbon dioxide in France’s first carbon capture and storage (CCS) pilot project.
