By OGJ editors

HOUSTON, Aug. 26 -- Brazil's president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, inaugurated the country's first LNG receiving terminal Aug. 20 at Pecem, in Ceara state.

The facility uses a floating storage and regasification vessel—the converted Golar Spirit—moored at a former oil jetty. It has the capacity to feed as much as 7 million cu m/day of natural gas to local power plants.

Petrobras is planning to open its second LNG terminal later this year at Guanabara Bay.
