Assay update shows higher gravity for Angolan Kissanje crude

Based on a sample taken Apr. 3, 2014, BP PLC has published an updated assay of Kissanje Blend crude oil from the Kizomba B deepwater project in Block 15 offshore Angola, which began production in July 2005 (OGJ Online, July 18, 2005).

The latest assay shows Kissanje has risen to 31.3° API gravity from an initial 29.6° API gravity as published in a 2006 assay issued by ExxonMobil Corp.-subsidiary Esso Exploration Angola (Block 15) Ltd., which operates Kizomba B under a concession agreement with Sonangol, Angola's state oil company (OGJ, June 19, 2006, p. 50).

The $3.5 billion Kizomba B project, with an estimated 1 billion bbl of oil in Kissanje and Dikanza oil fields, lies in 3,280 ft of water about 215 miles northwest of Luanda and includes a floating production, storage, and offloading vessel with 2.2 million bbl storage.

Esso holds a 40% interest in Block 15. Partners are BP Exploration (Angola) Ltd. 26.67%; ENI Angola Exploration BV 20%; and Statoil Angola 13.33%.
