New drilling bits

New HydraBoss Xstream and XLX Tricone bits are on the market.

The Xstream is specifically designed to address rate of penetration limiting factors when drilling formations conducive to bit and bottom hole balling. Xstream features a new nozzle configuration that cleans multiple rows of teeth and directly affects the borehole bottom. Its continuous flow forces cuttings outward towards the borehole wall and upwards past the bit.

The new XLX steel tooth package with Endura II hard facing provides durability and protection for the XLX-1 and MX-1 steel tooth bits. The company says it uses a technique that allows for a superthick application of hard facing on the tooth crest that retards tooth wear while sustaining high rates of penetration. The XLX package helps extend tooth life, eliminate rounded gauge, reduce fluid erosion of the spearpoint, and provide improved shirttail protection in abrasive formations. The XLX package works well in areas where high penetration rates in soft, abrasive applications are required, the company notes.

Relay modules for hazardous locations

A newly developed series of DIN rail mounted terminal block relay modules is CSA-approved for Class 1, Division II hazardous locations in oil field and petrochemical plant operations, specifically for gas groups A&B (hydrogen), C (ethylene), and D (methane, propane) with a temperature code approval of T6 (85° C.).

Designated the flare Series, the relay modules measure 6.2 mm thick. They provide control systems design engineers with a compact solution for high-density input-output wiring applications requiring switching or timing functions.

Flare Series relay terminal blocks permit use of smaller enclosures in oil field and petrochemical installations. Instead of requiring explosionproof enclosures, the flare relay modules can be installed inside standard weatherproof enclosures, directly in hazardous locations where gas ignition temperatures are 85° C., the company notes.

The relays serve as an interface for field and control devices when there is a need for isolation or timing control functions in a minimum space. In refining and other oil field applications, flare relays provide the required electrical isolation between control and load circuits. They are used as input couplers for remote sensors and switching devices, and as output couplers for valves and contactors.

The complete flare product line includes mechanical and solid-state relay modules as well as single and multifunction timer modules. All flare Series modules are packaged in 6.2 mm thick DIN rail mounted UL94 V-0 rated polyamide 6.6 housings.

Available with either screw clamp terminations for No. 10-24 wire gauge conductors or spring clamp terminations for high vibration and mobile applications accepting No. 12-24 wire sizes, flare relay modules also feature two-pole pluggable jumpers as well as 10-pole comb jumpers to reduce wiring time for faster installation.

Gas engines brochure, data sheets

New brochure and data sheets, yours free for the asking, discuss the Superior 2400GTL gas engines. Information illustrates updated features, including low compression ratio piston and upgraded electronic controls, which enhance performance and reliability in 1,200-3,200 hp gas compression applications.

The data sheets provide engineering specifications for the gas engines, which are available in 6.8.12, and 16 cylinder models. Version 6.0 of the CleanBurn electronic control system, standard on 2400GTL engines, offers low emissions, fuel efficiency, and automatically compensates for changes in operating conditions; in addition to enhanced on-board diagnostics and optional off-site programming. Details of the control system are included on an individual CleanBurn control system data sheet.

The new Orbimig 300 is a fully integrated, microprocessor-controlled orbital MIG welding system designed for piping, pipeline, and overlay applications.

The system features 360° orbital MIG welding capability and open butt root welding without the use of copper backing rings. The low profile, compact weld head features a gas-cooled torch, eliminating the need for a water cooler, water hoses, and other associated wet connections.

With jog speeds as high as 100 in./min and wire feed speeds up to 1,000 in./min, this high speed-high deposition system is designed to meet production and quality requirements of API 1104 for cross country transmission pipeline applications, as well as the high temperature requirements of ASME B31 pressure piping applications.
