ABB, Norwalk, Conn., has announced that Dinesh C. Paliwal has been appointed economic advisor to his excellency Huang Huahua, governor of Guangdong Province, Peoples Republic of China.

Norwalk, Conn., has announced that Dinesh C. Paliwal has been appointed economic advisor to his excellency Huang Huahua, governor of Guangdong Province, Peoples Republic of China. Paliwal is a member of ABB's executive committee and heads the group's worldwide Automation Technologies businesses. He will serve a three-year term to support the provincial government on economic issues and future development.

ABB has over 6,000 employees in China, with 17 manufacturing locations, and 28 sales and service centers in the country.

ABB is a leader in power and automation technologies to utilities and a variety of industries.

Downhole Products PLC

Aberdeen, has added several new offices to strengthen its global presence.

Kelly Smith has been appointed general manager-US and will be located in the company's new US regional office in Houston. Smith holds a BS degree from Oklahoma State University, and worked in a variety of marketing and operational roles before joining Downhole Products.

A new South American base has been established in Maracaibo, with Jose Herrero appointed director of the operations. Herrero has a BBA degree from Mercer University, Atlanta, Ga., and an MBA from the University of Hartford, Conn.

A new facility in Abu Dhabi will serve the demand for products and services in the Middle East. George McRobbie has been appointed sales manager-Middle East and will drive new business development efforts in the region. McRobbie, an Aberdeen native, has 25 years of experience in the oil industry.

The company's Aberdeen headquarters facilities have been expanded to more than twice the previous size to better serve its growing customer base.

Downhole Products PLC designs and manufactures specialist oil field equipment for the international upstream oil and gas industries. The company's flagship product is the Spir-o-lizer solid body centraliser. Other products include a range of solid centralisers and reamer shoes.

Hagglunds

Columbus, Ohio, has named John Duncan as president. Duncan had previously been president of Intertractor North America, and most recently was president of Cotta Transmission Co., Rockford, Ill. He received a bachelor's degree from the Milwaukee School of Engineering, and an MBA from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, Lake Forest, Ill.

Hagglunds is a leading supplier of complete hydraulic drive systems, motors, and pumps for a broad range of industries. A member of the Arcorus Group, parent Hagglunds Drives AB is headquartered in Mellansel, Sweden.

Baker Hughes Inc.

Houston, has announced management changes aimed at furthering the development of its executive management team. Named vice-president of marketing and technology is James R. "Rod" Clark, formerly president of Baker Petrolite. Ed Howell, formerly president of Baker Oil Tools, is now president of Baker Petrolite. Doug Wall, formerly president of Hughes Christensen, is now president of Baker Oil Tools. And Trevor Burgess, formerly holding the position of vice-president, marketing and technology, is president of Hughes Christensen.

Clark joined Baker Hughes from Consolidated Equipment Co. Inc., and had previously served as president of Sperry-Sun, a Halliburton company. He earned his BA and MBA at the University of Texas.

Howell received both a BA and MBA from the University of Southern California. He has been with Baker Hughes for 28 years.

Wall holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Calgary, and an MBA from the University of Alberta. He was president of Western Rock Bit in Canada prior to joining Baker Hughes in 1997.

Burgess joined Baker Hughes in 1999 after 20 years with Schlumberger. He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics and doctorate in geostatistics from Oxford University in the UK.

Wärtsilä North America Inc.

Houston, has moved its North American headquarters from Annapolis, Md., to Houston, Tex. The new location will serve as a global hub for Wärtsilä products, spare parts, and service, and will be home to the company's three business units: power plants, marine, and service. The company's new facility, near Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, is ten times larger than its previous Houston sales office location.

Bill Malacrida was named president of Wärtsilä North America earlier this year.

Wärtsilä North America is a subsidiary of Helsinki, Finland based Wärtsilä Corp.

Wärtsilä Corp. is a major provider of solutions for decentralized power generation, and a leading global ship power supplier.

Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA)

Cambridge, Mass., has named Peter Jackson as director for oil industry activity. Based in London, Jackson will lead the company's research into oil and gas productive capacity outside North America.

Jackson received a BS in geology from the University of St. Andrews, and a PhD in geology from the University of Edinburgh. He previously was employed by Enterprise Oil, in several top management positions.
