YPF is advancing exploration of the Argentine North Basin (CAN) 102 block with the arrival of the Pxgeo 2 research and survey vessel.

The vessel, which arrived on the shores of Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires Province, the first week of March, will carry out seismic exploration work to survey the area seabed.

Block CAN 102, covering an area of 8,964 sq km, lies north of the Argentine North Basin on the maritime boundary between Argentina and Uruguay about 300 km from the coast, off the Atlantic end of Samborombón Bay. This block lies in ultra-deep waters of 1,200-4,000 m in the Argentine continental shelf. YPF is operator of the block in a 50-50 partnership with Equinor.

The first step towards offshore development in the northern basin of the Argentine Sea is set to occur in April when Equinor is scheduled to begin drilling the Argerich-1 well in CAN 100 block (OGJ Online, Feb. 16, 2024). Equinor is operator of the block with 35% interest. Partners are YPF (35%) and Shell (30%).
