Dr. Zhihong (John) Zhou is the Executive Director, Environmental Management at Alberta Innovates – Energy and Environment Solutions (AI-EES). He has 24 years of research, development, and management experience in oil sands industry and environmental management, and seven US patents. In 2008-2009, John initiated a 20-member international industry consortium, Materials and Reliability in Oil Sands, or MARIOS and was its founding director. John’s current responsibility at AI-EES includes water resources and carbon capture and storage (CCS), oil sands tailings and water management, life cycle analysis, sustainability, biodiversity, and land reclamation. He is a member of APEGGA, a board member of Oil Sands Research and Information Network (OSRIN), and a member of Research Management Committee of Carbon Management Canada (CMC).
