US and Russian oil and gas companies have recently announced promotions and additions to their executive leadership.
Gary C. Evans, president and CEO of Magnum Hunter Resources Inc., Irving, Tex., has been elected chairman.
As chairman, Evans also will continue as president and CEO. He succeeds Matthew C. Lutz, who retired as chairman and executive vice-president in early September. Evans has served as president, CEO, and director of Magnum Hunter since December 1995. He has been chairman and CEO of all Magnum Hunter subsidiaries since their formation or acquisition.
In 1985, Evans founded Hunter Resources Inc., which 10 years later was merged into and formed Magnum Hunter.
Russian company OAO Sibneft has appointed executives to two new positions.
Iskander Diyashev was named chief engineer. He formerly occupied a similar position in the Noyabrsk office of Sibneft's strategic alliance partner in Russia, international oil field service company Schlumberger Ltd., where he helped develop Sibneft's horizontal drilling and reservoir modeling programs. As chief engineer, Diyashev will spearhead the development of Sibneft's geological model- ing capabilities. He also will be responsible for drafting oil field development plans as part of Sibneft's aggressive program for developing new fields.
Diyashev will work closely with the company's modeling center in Noyabrsk and with the Inpetro research institute, which Sibneft acquired last year.
He previously was chief engineer in the Noyabrsk office of Schlumberger, where he has worked since 1997. Before that, Diyashev spent 3 years working for Schlumberger and its Holditch Reservoir Tech- nologies affiliate in the US, having previously worked for Tatneft during 1990-94.
Sibneft has appointed Joseph Carl Granger as post of chief technology officer.
Granger also formerly worked with Schlumberger in its Russian alliance with Sibneft, heading a joint working group on production optimization.
As CTO, Granger will lead Sibneft's drive to introduce new production technology.
His responsibilities include restructuring Sibneft's engineering divisions, introducing new production optimization software, developing fracturing treatment design, and introducing new downhole equipment.
Granger has worked for Schlumberger since 1981 in the US, Nigeria, and Russia as a specialist in technologies to boost production.
Thomas P. Chambers has been named vice-president, corporate planning, for Apache Corp., Houston.
He joined Apache in March 1995 as director of planning. Previously, he worked in international business development at Pennzoil Exploration & Production Co. Chambers also worked at BP Exploration Inc. after beginning his career at Diamond Shamrock Inc.
