PERSONNEL MOVES AND PROMOTIONS: Phillips appoints several vice-presidents

Laura Sugg has been appointed vice-president, worldwide gas. The newly created position, Phillips said, "is part of a new worldwide gas organization, created to further improve the focus and execution of the company's worldwide gas strategy."

Previously, Sugg served as new business ventures manager for the company's corporate strategy and development group.

Prior to joining Phillips in 1986, Sugg worked for BP PLC predecessor Standard Oil Co. of Ohio. Sugg served in various engineering and financial positions in Odessa, Tex.; Houston; Bartlesville, Okla.; and Norway.

Jeff Sheets, who most recently served as Phillips's assistant treasurer, has been elected vice-president and treasurer. Sheets previously served as commercial services manager and staff finance director in the company's Norway division and has held various engineering positions since joining Phillips in 1980.

Fran Vallejo, currently strategic transactions and planning manager in the company's corporate strategy and development group, has been elected assistant treasurer effective May 1. Vallejo joined Phillips in 1987 as a geophysicist and has held positions in seismic processing and interpretation, gas supply reporting, and finance.

Other moves

William G. Hargett has been appointed president and CEO of Houston Exploration Co., Houston. Hargett succeeds James G. Floyd, who has retired. Floyd was a founding member of the company.

Most recently, Hargett served as president, North America, for Santa Fe Snyder Corp., Houston, which was acquired last year by Devon Energy Corp., Oklahoma City (OGJ, June 5, 2000, p. 26).

Richard R. Hoffman has been named senior vice-president, exploration and production, for Belden & Blake Corp., North Canton, Ohio. Hoffman has 28 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, with extensive operational experience in the Appalachian basin. Hoffman served as manager, production, for Richmond, Va.-based Dominion Resources Inc. unit Dominion Appalachian Development Inc. during 1998-2000.

During 1982-97, Hoffman was executive vice-president and chief operating officer of Alamco Inc., Clarksburg, W.Va., and served on its board during 1988-97. Hoffman was superintendent, production, and field engineer-drilling for Cabot Oil & Gas Corp., Houston, during 1980-82, and during 1977-80, he worked as a field engineer for the former Flint Oil & Gas Inc., Buffalo, NY. Hoffman also held the position of assistant production superintendent-engineer with Wiser Oil Co., Dallas.

Vector Pipeline, Livonia, Mich., has made a number of management appointments.

John Donaldson has been appointed vice-president, marketing, Linda Maiorana was appointed general manager, accounting, regulatory, and administration; and Matt Malinowski has been named manager, market development.

Donaldson will be responsible for the natural gas pipeline's short and long-term sales, market development, customer service, and new service development. Donaldson, with 22 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, most recently served as vice-president, customer service, for El Paso Corp. unit ANR Pipeline Co., Detroit.

Maiorana will oversee Vector's financial and regulatory reporting and will be responsible for contract administration. Prior to joining Vector, Maiorana worked at ANR Pipeline for more than 29 years, where she held various management positions. Most recently, Maiorana served as assistant vice-president, market analysis.

Malinowski will head up new business ventures for Vector. He worked for ANR Pipeline for 10 years before joining Vector. Malinowski most recently held the position of project engineer, facility planning.

Douglas B. Selvius has joined Goodrich Petroleum Corp., Houston, as a vice-president and exploration manager. Selvius will be responsible for supervising the current development of the Lafitte, Burrwood, and West Delta 83 fields and for directing Goodrich's exploration activities. Selvius also will pursue additional acquisitions of mature oil and gas properties.

Previously, Selvius worked for International Paper Co.'s oil and gas unit, IP Petroleum Co. Inc., as its Gulf Coast division geologist and project leader, where he was responsible for IP's Gulf of Mexico and Gulf Coast basin exploration and development work. Prior to joining IP, Selvius served as a senior geologist for BHP Petroleum Ltd. and Tenneco Oil Co.
