Syncrude oil production keeps climbing

Syncrude Canada Ltd. produced a record volume of sweet blend crude oil during 1995. Production from the company's oilsands operation at Fort McMurray, Alta., jumped to 73.9 million bbl, topping the target for the year by 400,000 bbl. Fourth quarter 1995 production was 19.5 million bbl, which exceeded production of 17.9 million bbl during the same period of 1994. December production in both years was 6.4 million bbl.

Production from the company's oilsands operation at Fort McMurray, Alta., jumped to 73.9 million bbl, topping the target for the year by 400,000 bbl. Fourth quarter 1995 production was 19.5 million bbl, which exceeded production of 17.9 million bbl during the same period of 1994. December production in both years was 6.4 million bbl.

Syncrude's production last year was 4.1 million bbl higher than 1994 shipments, making 1995 the sixth year in a row the company has achieved a record volume. The company's production goal for 1996 is 75 million bbl, another yearly record.

At yearend 1995, Syncrude had shipped 831 million bbl of light sweet crude since production began in 1978.

Syncrude is a joint venture of Alberta Energy Co. Ltd., AEC Oil Sands LP, Athabasca Oil Sands Investments Inc., Canadian Occidental Petroleum Ltd., Gulf Canada Resources Ltd., Imperial Oil Resources, Mocal Energy Ltd., Murphy Oil Co. Ltd., PanCanadian Gas Products Ltd., and Petro-Canada.
