TAIWAN MULLS OILSANDS PURCHASE

Taiwan's state owned Chinese Petroleum Corp. (CPC) is considering a multibillion dollar investment in Alberta's oil sands. Taiwanese and Alberta officials confirmed talks were under way on a $1 2 billion (Canadian) investment in the Syncrude Canada Ltd. plant near Fort McMurray, Alta. The provincial government is interested in selling its remaining 11.74% interest in Syncrude. Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board recently approved a $2 billion Syncrude expansion plan.
